Breast Feeding - The Check List
The Breastfeeders checklist
It’s an artform not a science as each baby and mother combination is different but follow our checklist to make sure both you and your baby are on the right tracks:
- Are you positioned correctly is your baby’s chest pressed against yours?
- Can you hear him or her swallowing in short and longer gulps?
- Are you feeling a tingling sensations?
- Is your baby’s jaw moving?
- Are your childs ears wiggling in time with their jaw moving?
- Is his or her mouth wide open?
- Is their bottom lip turned out?
- Is there more breast in your baby’s mouth below the nipple than above?
- Does the let-down reflex make your breast leak?
If you notice any of the following during feeding time, you may need to get check your positioning:
- Your baby’s lips look as though he is sucking on a straw
- Their cheeks are sucked in more than usual
- Clicking noises coming from the baby’s mouth
- If it is painful throughout the feeding process.
